Child Fatally Injured During SUV Collision in West Philadelphia
April 23, 2018
A child sustained fatal injuries after an SUV collision took place in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Around 11:15 pm, on Sunday night, the fatal motor vehicle accident occurred when an SUV hit a man who was driving on a minibike with his 6-year-old son on Callowhill Street. The boy was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and succumbed to his fatal injuries on Monday morning while the 27-year-old father sustained critical injuries during the SUV collision and was brought to the Lankenau Hospital for treatment. Police suspect that the SUV driver was engaging in intoxicated driving and was operating his vehicle with a suspended license.
Riders of minibikes and any other two-wheeled vehicles may be more vulnerable in an accident involving a much larger vehicle. When a larger mode of transportation like an SUV collides with a bike or motorcycle, the results may be catastrophic and leave victims with a spate of personal injuries and potential fatalities. Contributing factors such as drunk driving or speeding increase the likelihood of a serious accident.
